The FCC introduced the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) on December 31, 2021. Funded by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act with $14.2 billion, it supersedes the Emergency Broadband Benefit, providing internet access support.
What is the Eligibility Criteria for Affordable Connectivity Program?
To qualify for the Affordable Connectivity Program, a household must either have an income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or have a member who meets one of the following conditions:
- Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year.
- Qualifies under a participating provider’s low-income internet program.
- Receives benefits like Supplemental Security Income (SSI), WIC, Veterans Pension or Survivor Benefits, or is enrolled in Lifeline.
- Is enrolled in assistance programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, or Federal Housing Assistance, which include various housing options like Section 8 Vouchers, Public Housing, and more targeted programs for specific communities.
- Participates in the Free and Reduced-Price School Lunch or School Breakfast Program, applicable also in USDA Community Eligibility Provision schools.
- Lives on qualifying Tribal lands and is a participant in programs such as Tribal TANF, the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations, Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, or income-based Tribal Head Start.
